23rd March

There are some days when I don't feel like writing anything, and some when I could write pages.

Today is the latter.

It is amazing what a bit of fresh air can do for you.

Last week I was really stressed with deadlines, and a thousand and one other things that I needed to do or that was going on in my head or around me.

If there is anything that I want you to take away from this post, is that:

'taking some time out for YOU is very important!'

I came back to Leeds last night with a negative mindset and didn't feel like doing anything today. University can be amazing and give you some of the best memories, but sometimes it can be a bit tough.

I had an interview today, and I was slowly talking myself of not going, staying in bed with my head under the covers. I managed to snap myself out of it, get ready and leave my flat! Thank god I did!

Whilst waiting to be seen, I got chatting to two lovely girls - who both ended up living not too far from me back at home. What a small world ay! We laughed and shared stories which kind of secretly all helped us with our nerves. I got called up and wished them well.

I had nothing to worry about at all. It was a quick informal chat and I was out of there. So fingers crossed it all went well. I felt quite positive after that one.

On a high note, I thought I would take a wander into town for a little mooch round the shops. By this time my battery on my phone had run out, so I had nothing else to distract me.
Taking some real time out for myself was just what I needed. And maybe a little bit of retail therapy also ;)

Some bargains from Primark and a green tea later, I am now sat back at home feeling so much more happy and positive.
I think the weather really helps me too. Even on a windy day, the presence of the sun and fresh air does absolute wonders for me.

I feel inspired and motivated for what feels like no real reason at all. But I'm in a great mood and thats all that matters. So even if its just going for a walk, sitting in the garden with a book or taking a trip to the shops to spend spend spend. Having 'me time' is a neccessity.

We're not in Kansas anymore...

I went home for the weekend back to Birmingham, and got up to a lot of festive fun.

I mainly spent the week, catching up with my family and friends. I had such a lovely time, and it was just what I needed to finally get into the festive spirit. Over the past few months, I have slowly been sorting out everyones christmas presents, as I'm a bit of an organised freak!

So on the one evening I got to myself, I decided to light a few candles (Christmas scented o'course!), stick on one of my favourite classics and wrap away!

The Christmas Rum Punch candle was definitely my favourite! But its nearly all gone now because of how many times I have used it! If I remember correctly its from Aldi, so I will definitely be making a trip there soon, to buy some more!

After an evening of successful wrapping. I have nothing to do now in terms of buying presents - which I am slightly gutted about because I keep on seeing wonderful things in the shops, and being so tempted. I wish I could treat my loved ones to them all, but unfortunately the student budget just does not cut it.

* Spoiler alert for whoever this is for *

I have become candle obsessed! Especially ones that are christmas related!

Whilst working at Grand Designs Live, I strolled into the interiors section on one of my breaks. To my surprise and complete joy, I found the Yankee Candle stand. Of course I had to have a little mooch around. Unfortunately, I only had enough money for some lunch and journey home, so I couldn't stretch out to the beautiful Christmas limited edition gift sets, but instead I bought 9 mini candles for £11 I think it was. They had like dispensers of each scent from the wide range you could pick from. I literally picked each one up and smelt it probably about two or three times. The man on the stand must of thought I was mad!

So I went for a few christmas scents as presents- they smell absolutely divine, then classics ones for myself like Clean Cotton.

To end my week at home, I went for a girly bonding shopping session with my mom and sister, and ended it with a festive Starbucks drink - which I have never actually had before. Shock horror I know! I had the Almond and Honey Hot Chocolate, and I think Elena had a latte of some sort. We had gold sprinkles on our drinks also! I asked the man behind the till as to why this was and he replied "Selfridges are the only store that does it in the country, we make it more special".

It was lovely to have some home comforts and spend some time with some of my favourite people. It really set me up for the festive period. I hope you are all starting to feel christmassy too and it's not just me!

HAPPINESS

I am currently very content with my life, for the first time in a very long while.

I feel like I've learnt so much in the past couple of months.
About life and myself.
Where I want to go, and who I want to be.

University has taught me how to grow up.
I already knew how to cook, wash and clean before I got there, so I wasn't completely clueless. However I was very much dependable on my mom for getting things done.
Starting a fresh new journey on your own can be extremely terrifying, but luckily, I had a lovely bunch of flat mates to feel lost together with.

I've always loved the feeling of independence and being able to make all my own decisions, which is what I can now do - although I will forever always turn to my mom for her great words of wisdom, but then again who doesn't?

I've just started an incredible journey for the next 4 years.
They say uni days are the best days. And I really hope so, because this is this start of something new *breaks into song*.
I am studying something which I have a great passion in. Something that I've always want to do and be involved in. Something that has influenced me a great deal in life. I can't wait to continue into this career and explore the world doing so.
(I will do a separate post of university as a whole soon.)

I have goals and ambitions.
They will never get handed to me on a plate. I have to work extremely hard for them. And as crazy as it seems, I can't wait to do so! I can't wait to achieve my aspirations, knowing i've worked my little butt off to get there. When I receive my first proper payslip, I can say 'I did that all by myself'. I can't wait to buy myself that designer bag I've always wanted - so I can say 'I worked damn hard for that'.

But one main thing I have learnt is:
We are the creators of our own happiness.

You choose the people who you want in your life, the people who bring out the best in you. Those who you can count on and be there for, through thick and thin.

I currently feel so much love around me, I couldn't be happier right now in time.

And I thank those for staying in my life, and coming into it unexpected :)

MUSIC MONDAY: Rainy Milo

First of all,  Happy New Year to everyone!

I haven't had a lot of time to myself since the new year started. However tonight, I decided to just sit down and listen to Radio 1. And I'm extremely glad I did.

Zane Lowe played a track on his show by South-East Londoner Rainy Milo.
I became mesmerized with her vocals in 'Bout You', so hit to SoundCloud immediately, to find it and share with you all.

I would highly advise you to listen to all of her songs on there, as I just have.
When discovering new artists, I never normally enjoy all of their songs, like many of these top shots who always have that one crap song on the end of their album.
But luckily in this case, they are all stunning, if that's even a way to describe songs.
Milo's voice is so mature for her age, at only 18.

With talent and music like hers, I expect big things for Rainy Milo in the future.
Stay Tuned...

SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA @ MKB | REVIEW

It's been months since my last post. And even longer since this event.

But I wanted to share with you all, my experience from when I went to Swedish House Mafia's final UK show at Milton Keynes Bowl

SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA
Swedes host largest headline DJ show in the world
MILTON KEYNES BOWL, ENGLAND.
 Saturday 14th July 2012.

★★★★★

You would think cramming 60,000 people into, what can only be described as a crater situated in the centre of Milton Keynes would cause chaos? This certainly wasn’t the case when the sensational stars – Swedish House Mafia rocked up to the bowl with a line-up of dance acts, who have supported their journey from inception, to stage a farewell extravaganza.

The trio joined forces back in 2004 after touring together as DJ’s to showcase their ability as a union. It was unknown at this juncture, that their careers would transform progressively and that three guys from Sweden would be acknowledged worldwide, under their alias, as the ‘faces of progressive house music’. From dingy clubs to headlining major festivals, escalating album charts and selling out arenas – or bowls, in this case. It is clear that, the power of evolution is key.
Milton Keynes Bowl has seen the likes of ACDC to Jay-Z. So it was certainly prepared to host a record breaking 9 hour gig in the middle of July.

The sun was beaming, the gates had opened and fans started flooding in by the thousands, for what was billed as ‘the largest headline DJ show in the world’. They all shared one aim. That was to give Axwell, Sebestian Ingrosso and Steve Angello the best send off – to embrace the music and reminisce about the past 8 years whilst being blinded by various strobes and lasers.

Example was the first act that many punters got to see, because it took about 45 minutes to actually catch a glimpse of the bowl itself from the gate, as they contiguously ascended through the long process of ‘passport control’. Many missed NO_ID –who obviously didn’t have any issues getting themselves in. Example, aka Elliot Gleave is known for his ecstatic energy which he throws onto the crowd. He was the only act to be accompanied by a live band.  The atmosphere this created was thrilling as he got a spectrum of individuals all bouncing and singing in unison like football maniacs, chanting ‘HERE WE F**CKING GO’, setting the crowd up for a day they would never forget.

More famous faces were welcomed to the stage; Madeon – 17 year old producer from France stunned the crowd with his exceptional skills.  Alesso, gave them a taste of the final set list that they were patiently waiting for, as he played his track with Ingrosso – ‘Calling’ and chart topping Calvin Harris, who has seen majority of the population of the UK in the past month due to consistent touring, joined them to woo the fans, pump their souls and make them realise why they are actually here - their love of music. By the time the penultimate act – Pete Tong – was on. The bowl had transformed into a mud bath of drunken bodies all connected together by passion. The crowd was a panorama who had already danced their feet to blisters, sang their throats dry and warmed their hearts up. But without a doubt, they were ready.

Darkness had descended; a curtain had dropped to reveal a 20 ft high video screen. Pyrotechnics had kicked in and ‘Greyhound’ was introduced as the screen split through the middle to reveal the 3 DJ’s, who had waited months for this particular moment.  The two hour set had begun, and they blazed through their top tunes such as; ‘One’ and ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’.  As the threesome went through their discography, they thanked everyone numerous times for attending and sharing an exceptional day with them.  “Real friends are people that help you home from the club, when you’re too drunk. Real friends are people that help you move house. Real friends will drive 10 hours, sleep in a van or tent, to come and party with you, even though it’s F**CKING raining! That’s what you are. Real friends”.

The climax of the night had to be stated when their collaboration with Knife Party – ‘Antidote’ got dropped. The grungy beat combined with intense visuals and extreme pyros is what made the performance, with confetti cannons shooting off in all directions. Also, when played their new single ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ – which was written about the night itself, brought everyone that little bit closer.  A 2 hour set definitely wasn’t enough for the fans. They could have carried on partying throughout the night, as they did not want to see the Swedes disappear through the surge of CO2 cannons.

They ended off with their classic, ‘Save the World’. This marked a moment where everyone sealed their bond and became officially united. They didn’t care whether the person dancing next to them ran over the neighbour’s cat, or whether they were worst enemies at school. They cared about that moment.  Emotions were flying, just like the bottles of piss. No-one cared. Everyone was in awe, from the bar staff to security. From merch sellers to litter patrol. They were mesmerised by what they had just been a part of.  Swedish House Mafia had just performed in the UK for the last time.

Following the drastic news that Swedish House Mafia will never grace decks in England again, Axwell personally announced on June 24th “Today we want to share with you, that the tour we are about to go on will be our last. We want to thank every single one of you that came with us on this journey. We came. We raved. We loved”.

Although it may be the last time we see them as a joint in the UK. It certainly won’t be the last time we hear of them as individuals. But for now, as they embark on their final tour – ironically called ‘One Last Tour’, they give a list of other countries round the world the chance to experience the euphoria and relive the indescribable, which happened in Milton Keynes that night.

Swedish House Mafia’s new album ‘Until Now’ forms the official soundtrack to the tour, and is out now in all leading music stores.

NEW MUSIC | Jareth

You may be wondering who's Jareth?

She's a London based singer/songwriter who has written for the likes of Cheryl Cole and Chris Lake.
Jareth gained the attention of many with not only her soulful voice, but with her impromptu performances around London - in black cabs and museums,to name a few.

You are most likely to recognise her powerful vocals, from the worldwide 2012 Roberto Cavalli parfum campaign.

Now that you've got yourself familiarised with the star, I'm here to introduce to you, her new track Long Way - which is available for FREE download here.

MUSIC MONDAY: Adi Ulmansky

I'm here to introduce to you Israeli producer Adi Ulmansky.

From an early age, it was confirmed that she was blessed with talent, from Adi's music teacher  "you have a rare gift - music is your destiny".

However, her musical gift did not just cease at production,  she is a singer/songwriter too!

Following her debut EP Shit Just Got Real via a premier with Noisey Music, Ulmansky has been working hard to create a new set of tracks which are just as colourful as her unique fashion sense.
Adi's forthcoming EP Hurricane Girl combines a whirlwind of genres, which I can only describe as underground pop infused with  bold rap and compelling electro beats. Adi's music certainly reflects her trendsetter personality.

My favourite tunes off the new EP have to be Falling and Was It You? as I love to hear Adi showcase her warming vocals. Also, I prefer the slower flow and relaxed side of the production.
Nevertheless, the girl has got skills, and I look forward to hearing more from her!

Hurricane Girl is available to stream on Soundcloud and is set for release on August 19.

MOSTLY JAZZ FESTIVAL | MUSIC

On the odd occasion when the sun decides to greet us with its presence, here in the UK, we certainly like to make the most of the rays. What a perfect way to do so, but attend a festival with exclusive performances, from some of the most high profile acts from the 70s and 80s.
Moseley Private Park welcomed the community with open arms for this yearly showcase for jazz, soul and funk fanatics.

I was lucky enough to attend 2 out of the 3 day festival. Slightly gutted that I missed Bonobo headlining on the Friday night, but was told how great he was.

So on Saturday morning, a group of us set out to Moseley Park - which, lucky for us was a mere 10 minute walk - with our chairs and picnic bags. When we arrived, we set up our pitch, and discovered our surroundings. The bands which played throughout the day were extremely good and created a great ambiance whilst people spectated, caught up with old friends and got their hair braided by the fabulous Nikki B.

As the sun started to set, Craig Charles hit to the decks playing everlasting tunes, it really set everyone off!
The evening ended with a beautiful performance from Candi Staton, as everyone sung along to her most popular hits 'You Got The Love' and 'Young Hearts Run Free'. I was really impressed with Staton's show, especially when I found out how old she actually is.

Saturday had been an energetic day, with painful feet from all the grooving, so we decided to take it slower on the Sunday. I think a lot of people thought the same as us, as everyone was a lot more relaxed. Some quite concerned they were going to miss the Wimbledon Final, but the organisers had taken all of this into consideration, and had a set up a TV screen at the bar, which allowed hundreds to go cheer crazy as Murray led us to victory after 37 years.

As word got around, and happiness spread, it set the perfect atmosphere for London group Soul II Soul to head up on stage. Of course they sent the crowd going when they dropped their classic hit 'Back to Life' - which was the only song I really knew from them. Most of the headliner's prime time was before I was even thought about, but having grew up with soul music, I certainly knew the best ones.

Prior to the festival, I had watched Chic's performance at Glastonbury, and was super excited to see their set for myself.  Its safe to say they stole the entire show at Mostly Jazz. Headlining the final night, the legend that is Nile Rodgers invited a mass on stage to join them for their finale 'Good Times'. By this time, the whole park was on their feet, wishing that the group could stay and perform for longer, due to the euphoria they had created - which was indescribable. Rodgers couldn't thank everyone enough for attending as he got played out, by the whole crowd singing in unison to  Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' (which he features on).

The vibes of Mostly Jazz festival are truly unique, and by the end of it, everyone felt like one big massive family. The organisers should be really proud of what they have created and achieved this year, and I can't express my love for this festival any more. If you're a fan of Jazz, Funk and Soul music, or even just want an amazing weekend out with a bunch of lovely people, then Mostly Jazz Festival is definitely one for you!

MUSIC MONDAY: Josh Record

With the incredible name that he holds, it appears that London based - Josh Record, was destined for stardom since birth.

After watching various YouTube videos where Josh's song - For Your Love provided the background music, I became mesmerized with his voice. His tranquilizing vocals above the faultless, acoustic arrangements are truly stunning!

He is certainly one to keep your eye on, especially if you like Ben Howard and Bon Iver, as he follows a similar style but puts his own unique spin on things.

Record has recently been on tour around the UK,  showcasing his debut EP Bones,  and new EP The War - which is available to download here.

MUSIC MONDAY: David Stewart

Now here is a personal favourite of mine, as I've followed David Stewart's career for a few years now, from when I first saw him on stage, back in 2010, playing guitar for Example.

Throughout his time  touring around the world - with Example, Stewart was uploading covers to YouTube and creating music, that would stun many - in different ways.

Focussing now on his own music, David gets to flaunt all of his talents, not only as a singer/musician but as a songwriter and producer too. From his mixtape 'Late Night Viewing', which features the likes of Wretch 32, Ed Sheeran and Example himself, to his newest EP produced by Sango - 'Dark Side of Paradise'.

With years of experience and hard work, he has created a platform for himself, and already has a strong following, who are more than excited for his future in the music industry.

Here is a trailer for his newest single 'Pouring Rain', which will be released on his own label 'Sundream City'.

Stay tuned, as it is set to drop on iTunes on August 11.

MUSIC MONDAY: Mike Dignam

After a few years watching his career evolve, I got the chance to meet the singer/songwriter from Preston - Mike Dignam, after a free gig that he performed in Birmingham city centre in association with HMV.
With his soothing vocals, he is accompanied by his guitar to create a beautiful track listing for his second studio E.P ‘Paint’ - which he has been showcasing across the UK.

I managed to have a chat with him, whilst he was giving out his album for free - exclusively for one day only.
Reminiscing about the minor gigs in small pubs, to supporting the band Lawson on their tour in major venues.

The future is certainly looking bright for Mike as he is soon to embark on his own headline UK tour.

He is definitely not one to miss!

PARKLIFE WEEKENDER 2013 | FASHION

On June 8th, my friends and I headed off to Manchester's Heaton Park to kickstart the festival season with Parklife.
I've been to a few festivals in my time, but never one that was non-camping - so I didn't really know what to expect, and how my days would plan out.

There were certainly benefits of this; I could shower, have access to curlers and be able to take as many clothes and accessories as I wanted!

My case was overly organised, with planned outfits (and spares - weather depending of course), an overflowing bag of jewellery and a spectrum of lipsticks - I was satisfied that I was prepared to take on Parklife!

The festival itself really amazed me.
I've never been in a space with so many beautiful people before.  It was lovely to see that everyone had made such an effort to impress - from the festival organisers to the festival go-ers themselves.

With the weather in such good spirits, it was a great opportunity for everyone to get their legs out, ditch their wellies and come together as a union to embrace the music!

As much as I was highly focused and tuned in to the line-up - as some of my favourite singers, djs, and bands were playing - my attention was switched to the people. The people that chose to style themselves, making them stand out from the rest.

Now as you may have seen in a previous post, I was given the opportunity from Motel Rocks to snap some of my favourite outfits of the weekend, and give out some goodies in the process.

Check their festival shop out here

Here are some of my favourites:

Playsuit - Urban Outfitters
Trainers - Saucony

Kimono - Topshop
Dress - Topshop

Lace Top - Topshop
Dungarees - Vintage
Belt - Zara

Top - H&M
Shorts - Vintage
Shoes - Dr Martens

I had a lovely time speaking to people, and seeing all of the festival fashion, as it really is something in itself. I found that people express themselves more freely at festivals, and with the weather so beautiful, it certainly didn't give any limitations!

MY OUTFITS
Shorts - Levis
Top - H&M
Kimono - Miss Selfridge
Shoes - Converse
Oversized Tee - H&M
Jewellery - Vintage
Shoes - Converse
Sunglasses - Raybans

Hope you enjoyed the post.
My review of Parklife is coming soon, so watch out for that too!

Quick Update

After hours sat at my computer, scrolling through endless blogs, I have finally created and edited a new layout for my blog - it is pretty simple, but I think it compliments the genre of my blog pretty well.

My main aim when trying to edit it, was to make it understandable and easy to access for you all - which I hope it does!

I've neglected the blog for quite some time. I've just been super duper busy! But I'm back in force, and have a few exciting things to announce.

The first thing is that I'm going to Parklife Festival next weekend, and have been given the opportunity to blog about it for Motel Rocks - which is very exciting! I'll be picking individuals out and talking to them about their style, and also giving a general review of the festival itself. Also, Motel Rocks have given me a 20% off discount code, so feel free to use it at the checkout.

Secondly, I recently won tickets to Benicassim festival - which takes place in Spain. I couldn't believe my luck when I got a 'congratulations on winning' email. So hopefully, I'll be able to blog about that too. Music & Fashion wise.

Finally, my upgrade is due, so it's bye-bye iPhone 4. Hello iPhone 5!
Just wanted to share my excitement!

Things are finally looking up, and I've got some great things to look forward to.

MUSIC MONDAY

I wanted to give you 3 beauties this week - from a very popular garage-house duo to fresh, unseen talent.
I thought I'd give you a bit of a mixture.
Aren't I nice?

This post has been long overdue, as I found these songs a few weeks back, but I've been pretty busy recently, so am only just getting the time to show you them, but they were definitely worth the wait!

Let me know your favourite, by giving me a comment.

Disclosure - You & Me (Feat. Eliza Doolittle)

We all know the major success that Disclosure have quickly risen too, since releasing their single, last year, featuring Sam Smith -  'Latch'. They still continue to produce amazing beats which we all know will be part of our soundtrack for summer. The duo have got vocals off the beautiful Eliza Doolittle for their new song  'You & Me' which was released yesterday. The official video includes a familiar face on my blog - freerunner Tim Shieff.

Download it here

Hot Natured - Reverse Skydiving (Feat. Anabel Englund)

Talents have joined together to form the super group that is Hot Natured. This is their new release 'Reverse skydiving' - featuring vocals from Anabel Englund. I love the combination of soulful house with a sprinkle of pop? With its very catchy hook, this is set to be a dance hit.

The release date is 6th May - you can pre-order here

Gorilla On Drums - Stay Young (Feat. David Stewart)

Now here is a personal favourite of mine, as I've followed David Stewart's career for a few years now, from when I first saw him on stage, playing guitar for Example back in 2010.

He posted this song on twitter recently where he provides the vocals for German duo 'Gorilla On Drums'

Its so catchy, and definitely grown on me, as I find myself singing away to it a lot.
Both Gorilla On Drums and David Stewart definitely need more recognition for not just this song, but their other work!

Topshop and Zara Haul

Hey everyone, I thought I'd do a small haul post, to show you a few things I have bought over the past couple of weeks.

Every trip to town, results in wondrous walk around Topshop, gazing at all the beautiful clothes, wishing I had the money to purchase them all - and the wardrobe space! There were a few items which really caught my eye, but it took a third trip to pluck up the courage to actually buy them. I was  unsure whether I would be able to pull them off, or if I actually had other clothes to go with them.

After looking at Ashlie Small's blog, seeing her wearing a beautiful stripe cropped top, I decided to get one for myself. It has a flattering fit, and looks lovely with jeans, shorts and skirts. ( I had to try it on with all these items, to prove to myself that it could go with everything!)
After picking up the top, I noticed a VERY bright skirt in the corner of my eye. Now I normally would never go for something so 'out of there', but I thought hey why not? I also bought a necklace to use up my voucher.

Necklace - Topshop

My family and I had been invited to a wedding, and I hadn't got anything to wear, as most of my dresses are for going out in - not really appropriate for formal occasions.
I had been scouring the internet, and came across this picture of a girl wearing a yellow dress. I liked the look and fit of the dress, as it was plain but looked sophisticated. I finally found it on the Zara website, so I went into town with my mum who was lovely enough to agree to buy it for me.

Whilst we were in there, I found the most beautiful bag I have ever lay my eyes on (the one shown above). I thought it was going to be alot pricier than what it actually was. This bag is now my pride and joy and will accompany me everywhere!

Here is a small snap of my outfit for the wedding.

MUSIC MONDAY

I thought I'd share my excitement with you all for the new Daft Punk album 'Random Access Memories'. It is the French duo's fourth studio album and features collaborations with Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers and Todd Edwards just to name a few.

I grew up with Daft Punk, as my dad always used to play their LP's on his decks. As I have previously said, dance/house music has been a massive part and influence in my life, and I hope it continues to be. Daft Punk to me, are some of the originators of electronic dance music, and this new album will hopefully reinforce true dance music into the charts again. I hate how every one tries so hard nowadays to sing over a poxy beat and implies they are making dance music.

Anyway here is a snippet of what we can expect from their new album.

This teaser had its first showing at Coachella Festival this weekend and has got everyone on the edge of their seats waiting for the full album to be dropped.
